An East Texas woman says she runs prepared, with pepper spray and an air horn. But, she says it was not enough to fend off an attacker. Early Monday morning, around 5 A.M., the woman ways she was jogging by Bergfeld Park in Tyler, when she was attacked. According to the victim, the suspect hid himself by a wooded area, and then as she jogged by, he attacked her from behind.
The woman told police that the suspect grabbed and forced her to the ground, where he began to touch her inappropriately. With the air horn and pepper spray, the woman managed to flee the scene and contact the Tyler police soon after.
While investigating the case, Tyler police offered a few suggestions for joggers, especially if you are female. First, try to run with someone, and if your schedule doesn’t allow that, always let someone know when and where you are going. Second, always fight for your life. Officer Don Martin says, “We definitely recommend that you do whatever it takes to get away from the person. Today, you don’t know how far they’re going to take it, so you need to fight for your life.”
