The analysis of FBI data was performed by Onboard Informatics from FBI crime reporting data of the most recent seven years. This data includes property crime, such as burglary and motor vehicle theft, as well as violent crime. An index score of 100 is equal to the national crime rate, meaning that St. Louis, for example, with a an index of 530, has a crime rate more than quadruple the national average, scary!
